Roxboro man treated for hypothermia, broken bones

Posted November 12, 2008

— A Roxboro man was being treated for hypothermia and broken bones on Wednesday after being found in his car by a State Highway Patrol trooper.

Joseph Puryear, 41, lost control of his car on Old Roxboro Road in Granville County early Tuesday, Trooper Brian Moseley said. The vehicle went down a ditch and landed in a creek.

Puryear ended up crawling out into the bank of a creek. He spent 10 hours in the elements, which included freezing temperatures, until the trooper found him.

Puryear was being treated at Duke Hospital. No word was available on his condition.

This is actually my cousin and it is amazing that he waited 10 hours to be found. I am praying very hard for him.

How was he found in his car, if he crawled out up to the back of the water and waited for ten hours to be found?
