— A Rougemont woman died Wednesday when she lost control of her car and caused a wreck on N. C. Highway 157 in Orange County.

Ann Thrash, 28, slid off the road to the right, over-corrected and, in the process, hit a Toyota pickup driven by Michael Stone, 34. She was killed instantly. Her 11-month-old daughter, who was buckled in a car seat in the back, was unharmed. Stone was transported to Duke University Hospital where he was listed in good condition Wednesday afternoon.

Troopers who responded to the wreck said both drivers were wearing their seat belts and that slick roads likely were the cause.

she was a friend of mine since Elementary School! She will be missed by so many. I've been told the baby is fine..just some bumps and bruises.

I come through here every day on my way to work at around the same time and have noticed a pack of 4 or 5 dogs crossing the road around this intersection many times. They suddenly appear out of the long grass and I have had to slow down a few times to avoid them. Not sure if this had anything to do with this mornings wreck. So sorry for the family and hope the baby makes a full recovery.

We passed this accident on our way to work this morning; it had only happened a few minutes earlier. The car was smashed in very bad on the driver's side. It looked like the few rescue workers that had already arrived were going after something in the backseat. It really wasn't at that intersection and we weren't sure where the car would have been coming out from. I'm so very sorry for the loss, and a child that won't know its mother.

I live on this road, 1.3 miles from where the accident occurred, and I am sorry that someone died at this intersection. It is the second most dangerous intersection on Guess Rd, the worst being just down the road at Hwy 57. I pray that all the southbound drivers, on Guess Rd, will PLEASE slow down when approaching New Sharon Church Road. The intersection is truly a "blind" one and it makes me look toward the curve at least twice before proceeding across Guess Rd.
