Rocky Mount police chief plans to retire

Rocky Mount, N.C. — The police chief in Rocky Mount is turning in his badge after 32 years in law enforcement, a city official said Monday.
John H. Manley Jr. plans to retire July 1. He was with the Rocky Mount police department for 27 years and has served as chief of police since December 2004.
City Manager Charles W. Penny praised Manley's "dedication and visionary leadership" in a news release announcing his decision to retire.
Manley plans to spend his retirement with family and friends, traveling and continuing his volunteer work with organizations like Big Brothers Big Sisters and United Community Ministries, the release stated.
