Rocky Mount murder suspect caught
A Rocky Mount man wanted for murder in a September shooting was arrested in North Charleston, S.C., Friday morning, police said.

Tarrell Antoine Powell, 25, faces a charge of first-degree murder in the death of Anthony Corta Cooper, 30. Powell was placed without bond in the Al Cannon Detention Center in North Charleston, pending extradition to North Carolina.
Police said that Powell and Cooper were acquaintances and got into a fight early Sept. 2. That evening, Cooper was shot as he left the Neighborhood Grocery on Myrtle Avenue. He later died at Pitt Memorial Hospital in Greenville.
Powell is serving two concurrent probation sentences for an August conviction for carrying a concealed weapon and an April conviction for dealing drugs, according to state Department of Correction records. He's also been convicted of resisting officer, drug possession and possession of drug paraphernalia and has served one three-week jail sentence.
