LUMBERTON, N.C. — Dozens of people in Robeson County were allowed back in their homes late Wednesday after a troublesome wildfire forced them to leave.

Firefighters from 17 fire departments have been battling the wildfire for more than a week, and the blaze has burned more than 100 acres in that time.

The wildfire rekindled Wednesday and forced the evacuation of 35 to 40 homes. No residences were destroyed before firefighters finally got the fire under control, but several abandoned cars and a storage shed caught fire, authorities said.

One firefighter and one resident were treated for heat exhaustion Wednesday, authorities said.
