Roanoke Rapids man charged with trying to kidnap woman

Halifax County deputies have charged a man with trying to kidnap a woman near Roanoke Rapids Tuesday morning.

ROANOKE RAPIDS, N.C. — Halifax County deputies have charged a man with trying to kidnap a woman near Roanoke Rapids Tuesday morning.

Detective James Matthews said he responded to a 911 call about a woman being kidnapped near N.C. Highway 48 and Rhea Smith Road. He said he located the victim, who was unharmed in the attempt.

Michael Wayne Lee, 20, of Roanoke Rapids, was charged with second-degree kidnapping and assault on a female. He was placed in the Halifax County jail under a $100,000 bond. His first court appearance was set for April 6.
