Revised plan for Pittsboro's Chatham Park to be presented Tuesday
A revised plan for Chatham Park, a multi-use land project designed to bring homes, businesses, research space and parks to Pittsboro, will get a thorough review Tuesday evening during a special meeting of the town's Board of Commissioners.
Posted — UpdatedResidents of Pittsboro are expected to be out in force once again to provide their feedback about the controversial development, which has been in the works for years.
The revised plan, which is based on recommendations from The Lawrence Group, a St. Louis-based consultant hired by the town, should include more detailed plans about how Cary-based Preston Development will complete the project and how it will impact land, utilities, schools, transportation, open space and development.
If approved, Chatham Park would encompass more than 7,000 acres between the east side of Pittsboro and Jordan Lake. It would be completed in phases over 30 years.
The massive development, three times Pittsboro’s current size and equivalent to the size of Research Triangle Park, is expected to increase the town’s population by more than 1,900 percent, from 3,000 to more than 60,000 residents.
The project was put on hold in November after the board tabled a vote to approve a rezoning recommendation from the town’s planning department.
