RALEIGH, N.C. — The state Division of Motor Vehicles is investigating a driver's license examiner after a Raleigh woman said she was handed a license that she didn't actually earn.

Kenyetta Redmond, 19, said she went to the DMV office on Spring Forest Road in north Raleigh on Thursday morning to take the driving test for her first license, but the examiner handed her the license and walked off without ever giving her a test.

"She was like, 'I’m going to bless you today,'" Redmond said Friday. "In my head, I’m like, what does she mean by bless?"

The worker handed her some paperwork, printed out her license and gave it to her, Redmond said.

"She was like, 'Don’t tell nobody,' because she could lose her job," Redmond said.

She then escorted Redmond out of the office, clipboard in hand, but instead of getting into the car with her for the driving test, she told Redmond to have a nice day as she went to get a soda.

"When I got home (and) sat down, it was like, did all of this actually just happen?" she said.

Redmond told her mother about the incident, and they returned to the DMV office together to report it.

"To me, I was like, maybe it's God sending a message to test me and see if I'm going to do the right thing. I don't know," she said.

DMV spokesman John Brockwell said the agency is investigating, but he declined to say whether the unidentified worker was still on the job.

"There's no telling how many people she did it with," Redmond said. "I think we did the right thing to put a stop to it, hopefully."

She went to a different DMV office on Friday to take her test to earn her license.

"We just want it done the proper way," she said. "Not saying that I took it out the easy way."
