Raleigh woman killed in Atlantic Beach wreck

A Raleigh woman walking near the intersection of Fort Macon Road and West Drive in Atlantic Beach was hit and killed by a tractor-trailer Friday morning, police said.

ATLANTIC BEACH, N.C. — A Raleigh woman walking near the intersection of Fort Macon Road and West Drive in Atlantic Beach was hit and killed by a tractor-trailer Friday morning, police said. 

Investigators said Sue Johnson Cross was hit about noon as the tractor-trailer attempted to make a right turn from Fort Macon Road onto West Drive. Cross was airlifted to New Hanover Regional Medical Center, where she later died. 

Authorities did not release the name of the tractor-trailer driver or any other details about what caused the wreck. 

No other information was immediately available.
