RALEIGH, N.C. — Investigators are looking into the apparent drowning of a four-year-old girl at the Raleigh Gardens Apartments on Saint Giles Street Thursday afternoon.

Skye McLeod was taken to Rex Hospital where she was pronounced deceased, police said.

Investigators said Friday that Skye and a younger sibling were briefly left alone in a bathtub, and the girl was unconscious when the caregiver returned.

“She was classy prissy. She always wanted her nails done,” said Lakendra Price, who knew the girl. “Always a bright smile. She always asked for my lip gloss whenever she'd see me.”

Price was unsure of the details surrounding the child’s death but said the mother’s boyfriend was babysitting at the time. Neighbors said the girl’s younger sister was also home at the time.

Police on Friday released the 911 call made by an unidentified male caller in the home who frantically asked for help because the girl was not breathing.

“It's hard to believe and I’m going to miss her and I want to let her know that I love her,” Price said.

Authorities have not released any additional details.
