Raleigh moving forward with second phase of Hillsborough Street project
The Raleigh City Council has approved the second phase of work to revitalize Hillsborough Street, including the addition of a raised median, marked bike lanes and some on-street parking along a half-mile stretch of the busy road.
Posted — UpdatedThe work will take place between Gardner Street and the intersection of Rosemary and Shepherd streets, along the northern edge of the North Carolina State University campus.
A four-foot raised median in the center of the road, wider sidewalks and bike lanes in both directions will be designed to improve safety. Three new single-lane roundabouts will be added at the intersections of Rosemary and Sheperd streets, Dixie Trail and Friendly Drive, and Brooks Avenue.
Dan Allen Drive will become a right-in, right-out street with a westbound left-turn lane, officials said.
New LED lighting will also be installed to save energy and reduce maintenance costs.
