Raleigh man pleads guilty to tax evasion
A Raleigh man pleaded guilty Thursday to three counts of attempted tax evasion, according to the North Carolina Department of Revenue.
Posted — UpdatedProsecutors said that Thomas M. Jones Jr., 63, of 6112 River Meadow Court, filed state tax returns for 2006, 2007 and 2008 showing less income than he actually made. He received tax refunds that he wasn't entitled to, prosecutors said.
Wake County Superior Court Judge Donald Stephens gave Jones a suspended six-month jail sentence and placed him on probation for two years. Jones must pay the taxes he owes within six months.
Stephens also ordered Jones to pay a $1,000 fine and perform 100 hours of community service.
The case was investigated by an agent with the revenue department's Criminal Investigations Section.
