Raleigh man killed in sailboat accident
An accident at Camp Mondamin last Thursday has family and friends mourning the loss of a Wake County man.
Posted — UpdatedThirty-year-old camp counselor Simon Everett was pulling a sailboat out of a lake when the metal mast touched a main power line and electrocuted him.
According to officials he was knocked unconscious and later died at the hospital.
Everett had been a counselor for more than five years, and his family said he died doing what he loved.
Pastor Chris Edmonston, of Raleigh's White Memorial Presbyterian Church, said that Simon was a founding partner of Walk to State, LLC property management company, and donated his counselor salary to fund campers’ scholarships.
“He created laughter everywhere he went. He gave selflessly with every moment that he had to give,” Edmonston said.
Everett is remembered by family and friends for serving and engaging with people. He touched the lives of many through community programs and served as a mentor for youth, Edmonston said.
