RALEIGH, N.C. — A 40-year-old Raleigh man died in a single-vehicle wreck on Interstate 440 East early Saturday, police said.

A 1999 Lexus SUV driven by Eugene Villanueva Gonzalves ran off the left side of the road near the Hillsborough Street exit around 12:45 a.m., police said. The SUV hit the guardrail, overturned and slid down the guardrail while upside down.

Gonzalves was the only occupant of the vehicle and was wearing his seat belt.

The cause of the wreck was still under investigation, but police said that alcohol and speed were not factors.
