Raleigh man charged with stealing shoppers' wallets

print friendly

Police say a Raleigh man repeatedly snagged shoppers' wallets at a local Walmart.

Tri Cao Nguyen, 37, of 5011 Babbling Brook Way, was charged with four counts of misdemeanor larceny and two counts each of possession of stolen property and obtaining property by false pretense.

Investigators said Nguyen chose victims at the Walmart on New Hope Church Road in Raleigh, grabbing wallets from their shopping carts or purses while they weren't looking.

According to arrest warrants, he got four wallets between last Thursday and Monday and used stolen credit cards to buy groceries at a nearby Food Lion on Falls of the Neuse Road.

Best not to have too good a grip on the pocket book since a neighbor came out of the food lion on Poole Rd and had a kid running at top speed catch her purse by the strap, knocking her down and pulling her shoulder out of joint. She had a strap with anti-cut wire sewn in.

He was trying to get food, by all accounts given. Iwonder how much food he needed to have done it four times in a week?

Wow, I was in that particular Walmart this past weekend to use a gift card that was given to me by my employer. I'm not a regular shopper at Walmart but it appeard to be VERY BUSY so its hard to imagine this guy stealing anything w/o being seen right away. I'll just say I'm glad they did eventually catch him.

i find it amazing that so may women will leave their purses/wallets in the cart and walk away...its like they dont realize or dont think someone will steal from them..be careful and be safe...

In this day and age, it still fascinates me how women leave their purses open in shopping carts. I see this all the time and it only takes a few seconds to grab their wallets. Be smart and alert people.
