— Police on Friday charged a Raleigh man with abducting and choking a Boone woman.

Brandon Rashad Burkett, 22, was charged with first-degree kidnapping and assault by strangulation. He was being held Friday in the Watauga County Detention Center under a $30,000 secured bond.

Boone police said they received a 911 call from a woman who said a man was holding her against her will in a car and was driving her out of town. Watauga County deputies stopped the vehicle suspected in the kidnapping on U.S. Highway 421 in the Deep Gap area, police said.

The woman had been assaulted and suffered minor injuries, police said.

Scary. And in Boone? I would like to know if these are ASU students and if this occured on or near the campus.

Should have been $250k minimum for bond -- the idea is to PUNISH the criminals, not to make it easier for them to bond out.

Good work on the part of the victim and the police. Glad she is safe and he is locked up. Maybe they could up the bond at his first hearing.
