ROANOKE RAPIDS, N.C. — A Raleigh man has been arrested in connection with the robbery Thursday morning of a PNC Bank in Roanoke Rapids, authorities said.

Dannie Simon Parker, 47, has been charged with robbery, kidnapping, possession of stolen goods and driving without a license, police said Thursday in a written statement. He was being held in lieu of a $1 million bond and ordered to appear in court on Jan. 3, police said.

Investigators said Parker entered the bank, located on Julian Allsbrook Highway, around 9:15 a.m. and slipped a note to a bank employee that demanded money. Bank workers gave the man an unknown amount of cash before he fled from the scene on foot. Police said he was arrested without incident a short time later in the southbound lanes of Interstate 95 near 163rd Street.

“The quick capture of Mr. Parker was a combined effort on all levels, the employees, witnesses, law enforcement agencies and the 911 center," Roanoke Rapids police Chief Chuck Hasty said. "They gathered and relayed information to each other which lead to Mr. Parker being taken into custody without incident."
