WAKE FOREST, N.C. — A Raleigh man was charged Saturday in connection with alleged child sex crimes online, police said.

Matthew Lincoln Hassell, 26, of 2508 Weybridge Drive was charged with solicitation of a child by computer to commit an unlawful act.

According to a search warrant, Hassell sent a private message to an undercover Wake Forest police detective posing as a 14-year-old girl named "Heather" on the social media website MeetMe.com.

The detective said Hassell sent several messages to Heather and arranged to meet her in Wake Forest, but he failed to show up.

Investigators obtained a court order to get Hassell's personal information from the website in order to locate and arrest him.

Hassell was held under a $15,000 bond in the Wake County jail.
