RALEIGH, N.C. — Opinions are plenty regarding the future of downtown Raleigh, but for Julia Andracki and Katrina Holvik, the visitors from Maine like the area for what it is today.

“I have loved it,” Andracki said. “We have been going to restaurants, different shops. Oh, I love that the museums are free.”

Raleigh leaders want to attract more visitors like Andracki as they plan the area’s future. An advisory committee has created a draft plan regarding the area’s growth over the next decade.

Suggestions include:

  • Improved green spaces
  • More shops and residences
  • Better walking and biking opportunities
  • Enhanced public transit
  • A possible sports center

City leaders will consider which ideas are feasible and how to make them happen.
