RALEIGH, N.C. — As the weather warms up, more parents and kids are packing into pools to keep cool. On Thursday, a worldwide event is spreading a message that swimming lessons could save lives.

Hundreds of children in North Carolina are participating in a swimming lesson.

This lesson is gong to bring up to 100 kids together at The Greenway Club of Falls River for a free instructional session to learn the basics of swimming.

This is the first year The Greenway Club is participating.

This international event helps to prevent drowning. According to the CDC, about one in five people who die from drowning is a child 14 and younger.
