— A Raleigh day care worker is facing a child abuse charge in connection with an incident that happened at a Kinder Care Learning Center in Raleigh last year.

Dashuna Mecole Wiggins, 25, of 6701 Six Forks Road in Raleigh, was arrested Friday. She is charged with intentional child abuse inflicting serious physical injury.

Wiggins is accused of breaking a 1-year-old child's arm on Nov. 4 at the Kinder Care facility at 2300 Bridgeport Drive.

A spokesperson with Kinder Care said the company is "shocked and saddened by the arrest." But parents were not pleased that they were not notified of the allegations until the director called them Friday.

"We were not aware of any specific allegations against Ms. Wiggins until the charges were filed on Friday" spokesperson said in a statement to WRAL News.

Wiggins is suspended pending the outcome of the investigation.

Had that been my child, you'd be looking at my mugshot next to hers.

It does seem a long time. Most of the Day cares now have surveillance monitoring, don't they? Can't figure out how waiting until January would benefit the case (states case). And there's a lot of times that evidence "gets lost", or contaminated or erased...... poor baby. Prayers for the family

I am sad to hear of it, but it does not surprise me at all. Kinder care was rated very poorly by the state when I was looking at childcare options last year. I hope that poor child is healing well.
