RALEIGH, N.C. — A Raleigh day care worker is facing a child abuse charge in connection with an incident that happened at a Kinder Care Learning Center in Raleigh last year.

Dashuna Mecole Wiggins, 25, of 6701 Six Forks Road in Raleigh, was arrested Friday. She is charged with intentional child abuse inflicting serious physical injury.

Wiggins is accused of breaking a 1-year-old child's arm on Nov. 4 at the Kinder Care facility at 2300 Bridgeport Drive.

A spokesperson with Kinder Care said the company is "shocked and saddened by the arrest." But parents were not pleased that they were not notified of the allegations until the director called them Friday.

"We were not aware of any specific allegations against Ms. Wiggins until the charges were filed on Friday" spokesperson said in a statement to WRAL News.

Wiggins is suspended pending the outcome of the investigation.
