Luckily, Wide Open Bluegrass has moved almost all of its performances inside, making for fun, dry and free activities for families Friday and Saturday. The N.C. Museum of Natural Sciences has its new "Extreme Mammals" special exhibit. And Notasium, a new music-based play space, recently opened in Durham.

Need some other at-home ideas to keep the kids away from screens the entire weekend? Check out these ideas:

18 indoor activities, including fort making and plastic cup tower building
Go Outside: If the winds aren't too high and there's no thunder and lightning, there's nothing keeping you from a walk outside or a tromp through the mud. There are all kinds of things to explore during rainy weather - worms, floating leaves, the bottom of puddles and more. Just get out there!
