— A Hoke County man was arrested Thursday on child exploitation charges after child pornography was found on several computers and various computer discs, authorities said.

Travis Termaine Gibson, 28, of 105 Wrights Mobile Home Park, Lot 9 in Raeford, was charged with 16 counts of second-degree sexual exploitation of a minor and 15 counts of third-degree sexual exploitation of a minor. He was being held Friday in the Hoke County Jail under a $500,000 bond.

The State Bureau of Investigation Computer Crimes Unit initiated an investigation after learning large amounts of child pornography was being shared over the Internet, authorities said. Several computers and CDs were seized, and they were found to contain illicit images, authorities said.

Federal charges are expected to be filed in the case upon completion of the investigation, authorities said.

They should throw the book at this creep! He is sick and needs no freedom in society. I have no sympathy. Keep him off the streets from our kids!!

"He didn't have to take the pictures, nor disseminate them, in order to be charged - only have them in his possession. He might have done the other things, but I don't think they're necessary for the charge to stick."

Under the law, you can not produce, have in your possession, write about, or speak about having sex with children. PERIOD.

Your opinion is why these people are out and doing what they are doing repeatedly.

This is a perfect example of what the ACLU wants to defend. They want to defend his right to perversion via calling it their right.

This is the kind of people when they say they can not discriminate against anyone's "sexual preference" or "sexual orientation" allow into the schools, into organizations like the YMCA and Boy Scouts, into your church youth groups, and into other places where they are right on top of your kids day in and day out.

But the ones who say that it is not right to exclude these people are shocked it happened.

Let it be known - until you tell your legislator, senator, school board, town council that this simply is not acceptable behavior and that it has no place in society, they will continue to put into place these people who prey on your children, and the ACLU will defend them.

Now that they're coming to light in a regular stream - when do you think that the child's and parent's rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness was thrown out the window?

Please God do not let anything like that happen to my kids. That person would be fortunate to make it to jail. I'd rather have them dead, and my kids know the person won't hurt them anymore, than to have them in prison with the possibility of parole. Even if I have to spend the rest of my life in jail...

Section of the US Code that deals with it:

so do these charges of sexual exploitation of a minor mean he actually took the photos/videos himself, or is it the fact that he had acquired and shared them, thus propelling the initial exploitation from the person who did take them?--local know it all

If I understand the law correctly, it means he had them in his possession. He didn't have to take the pictures, nor disseminate them, in order to be charged - only have them in his possession. He might have done the other things, but I don't think they're necessary for the charge to stick.

People like this are another reason why Ile du Diable (Devil's Island of Papillon fame) should be re-opened. There is NO excuse for child porn. NONE.

allison....they "learned" of this by conducting sting operations just like they do with drugs. The internet service providers and file sharing networks monitor all traffic and let local authorities know. No matter where you go online or what you do you always leave a trail...it could just be a hard one to follow.

just plain wrong.... throw the book at him...

All who view or traffic in child porn, child molesters/abusers and pedophiles should be shipped to an isolated island someplace and dropped off. That is the only way to protect the children.
