Rabbit euthanized after incident at South Johnston High School
Investigators are looking into whether criminal charges are warranted after a rabbit was hurt at South Johnston High School in Four Oaks.

A spokeswoman for Johnston County Schools said several rabbits were lowered in a cage into the school’s court yard. Once the rabbits left the cage, they jumped around the courtyard and into a lower level. One rabbit was hurt jumping into vegetation and had to be euthanized, she said.
The other rabbits were adopted by the South Johnston Agriculture Department and are being cared for by students in the Future Farmers of America Program, she said.
“The administration at South Johnston High School and the Johnston County Schools takes the humane treatment of animals seriously,” the spokeswoman said in a statement.
Student discipline is confidential, she said, but the incident has been turned over to law enforcement.
