Public invited to Mandela memorial service in Raleigh

The public is invited to First Baptist Church on Saturday to join in a community-wide memorial service for late South Africa President Nelson Mandela.

RALEIGH, N.C. — The public is invited to First Baptist Church on Saturday to join in a community-wide memorial service for late South Africa President Nelson Mandela.

The “Celebration of Life” program begins at 2 p.m. in the sanctuary of the church at 101 S. Wilmington St.

The Rev. Dr. Dumas Harshaw Jr., pastor at the church, will officiate the service, which will include a welcome from Raleigh Mayor Nancy McFarlane.

Speakers will include the Rev. William Barber, president of the state chapter of the NAACP, 1st District Congressman G.K. Butterfield and Morrisville City Councilman Steve Rao.
