ROANOKE RAPIDS, N.C. — A probationer wanted on new charges of cyberstalking was arrested in Roanoke Rapids Friday after a tip to Crime Stoppers.

Lionel Maurice Martin, 26, of 181 Radar Circle, was wanted on charges of assault and injury to property, in addition to cyberstalking.

The Halifax County Sheriff's Office got a tip that Martin was staying with Julie Monroe, 33, in her residence at 316 Chockoyotee St.

Monroe told deputies that Martin wasn't at her residence, but deputies saw him jumping out a window and running away, authorities said. They chased him on foot and caught him near a Wal-Mart store.

After that incident, Martin was charged with three counts of resisting a public officer. Monroe was also charged with resisting a public officer. Both were placed in the Halifax County Jail.

Martin was given a $65,000 bond and a first court date of Jan. 10. Monroe was given a $500 bond and a first court date of Jan. 5.

Martin served a six-month prison sentence and was then put on probation in June after being convicted of two counts each of drug possession and assault on an officer and one count each of resisting an officer and possession of drug paraphernalia, according to state Department of Correction records.

Martin has two previous convictions for assault on a female and drug possession, as well as convictions for assault and communicating threats.
