RALEIGH, N.C. — Winter weather may be on the way out, but Raleigh drivers are still feeling the effects in the form of potholes on the roads.

According to Raleigh Transportation Field Services Manager Chris McGee, it could be a few weeks before the streets are smooth.

“It wasn’t too bad until a couple of weeks ago, but we had two pretty rough weeks,” he said.

In the winter, water gets into cracks, freezes and then expands – creating a pothole.

“Right now we have every crew available patching potholes just trying to get caught up,” McGee said. “It will probably take us a couple of weeks to get on top of everything and feel comfortable about having hit most everything that is out there. Help is on the way.”

Drivers are urged to report potholes to the city or state. Drivers in Raleigh can report a pothole by calling 919-996-6446.
