HENDERSON, N.C. — At least two homes were damaged Saturday when pop-up storms blew through Vance County.

Strong, straight-line winds or a possible tornado ripped the roof off a home on Brookston Road in Henderson around 7:50 p.m., officials said. The home was also knocked from its foundation.

Neighbors said they heard a loud whistling sound.

"It shook the house up over there," said neighbor Daisy Young.

The two people inside the home were taken to a nearby hotel.

At least one other home in the area was damaged. Nearly 200 people lost power during the storms.
