Police: Suspicious package contained documents

Posted June 9, 2010

— A package that apparently sickened three immigration workers Tuesday and forced a building evacuation contained only papers and files, police said Wednesday.

Three workers at the U.S. Bureau of Citizen & Immigration Services office, at 301 Roycroft Drive, had to be treated for nausea and eye irritation after coming in contact with the package. Authorities isolated the package and evacuated the immigration building.

Police described the package as an envelope with an oily residue. After tests to determine if the package contained hazardous chemicals were negative, the package was opened, and police found it contained various documents.

There was no immediate word on the source of the oily residue or whether that made the workers sick.

I placed an order last year for Christmas and my package was left under my porch at my front door. It was covered in gasoline and oil. I took it back to the Post Office and the person that delivered that day was reprimanded for leaving it by my house in that condition to begin with. I wasn't the only person to take back a package in that condition either. They claimed that sometimes when packages are flown in, they somehow get covered in oil and gasoline from the airplanes. Just putting it in my car made me nauseous from the fumes though. Maybe that was what made the workers sick?

i know this may be a little complicated for you kids but, it may be possible that the workers were indeed made sick by the "oily residue" on the package, not the actual contents. understand? i didn't think so.

I wonder if the people who apparently claimed to get sick because of this package are now embarrassed? Wait - I think it caused me to be sick too - how much can I sue for? Can I claim a disability and get paid to sit home and watch TV for the rest of my life now???
