— Police on Wednesday ruled the shooting of a woman in the head on the All American Expressway in Fayetteville Monday was a suicide.

Frances Marie Del Valle Sanchez, 21, and her ex-husband were traveling south on the freeway in a black GMC Yukon when they got into a minor wreck, spun out of control and ended up in the median, police said.

When police arrived on the scene, they found Sanchez lying outside the vehicle with a gunshot wound to the head. She died Tuesday evening at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center.

According to preliminary evidence, witness interviews and initial findings from the medical examiner, police said in a statement, "it appears as if Ms. Sanchez died as the result of a self-inflicted gunshot wound."

No charges have been filed, but authorities are still awaiting the final results of an autopsy.

Her ex-husband, a Fort Bragg soldier whose name has not been released, was driving the Yukon, police said. He was taken into custody for questioning Monday, but was later released.

He was prob scared that she would shoot him. We don't know at what point she shot herself. Don't be so quick to judge. We weren't there. I'm just glad he didnt do it. So many of these domestics end in murder/suicide.

no tellings what you would do if you just watched your ex wife shoot her self in the head what would be going through your mind who knows you might have went into the woods to cry or even felt guilthy god forbid a soldier cry

If it was suicide, then why did the ex husband run? I was thinking that perhaps it was a drive by shooting, and the ex-husband ran cause he thought someone would shoot him too (look what happened to that father and his two kids just recently.) But now they say she shot herself - so he took off and just left her there? That's pretty disgusting.

Now, lets review all those snap judgements from yesterday when this story was posted saying that the husband MUST have done it....

"Bumble Bee - to those who did originally attibute it to the soldier, i am quite sure that they would not understand the term "introspective examination." So for those folks he means "deep thinkin'""
I'm afraid "deep thinkin'" is not the right term either. That would involve having a thought process which some posters don't readily appear to have....

Introspection, bah. I hope that some of the "Golo Jurors" feel like fools today, for that's exactly what they made themselves out to be a few days ago.

True Bumble bee, you are so right. We are all going to try to become more introspective, thank you.
