CHAPEL HILL, N.C. — Police investigated an accident Tuesday that killed a Durham man on Farrington Road near N.C. Highway 54.

Delanor Altoier Gentry, 49, of Crowell Street, was driving a recycling truck when he suffered an apparent medical problem and lost control of the vehicle, police said. The truck veered across the northbound lanes of Farrington Road and into a parking lot. The truck then crossed a raised median and struck several shrubs, an ornamental lamppost and two parked vehicles.

Witnesses told officers that Gentry appeared to have slumped over before the vehicle went out of control

Paramedics transported Gentry to UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill, where he was pronounced dead.

No one else was injured.
