— A man tried to abduct an 11-year-old boy in the Riverwood subdivision in Clayton Thursday evening, police said Friday.

The boy told police he was jogging when a man waved him down near the intersection of Collinsworth Drive and Swain Trail at about 7:10 p.m. The boy said the man put his hand on his shoulder and threatened to harm him unless he went with the man into some nearby woods.

The boy said he ran from the man and escaped unharmed. He provided police a vague description of the man.

Clayton police said the incident remains under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to call Detective P.D. Millar at 919-553-4611.

I live out here in Riverwood, it did happen and the cops better find him before I do. I have two sons who play around the community and wouldn't think twice about trying to kill him!!

I'm glad the child reported it. Some kids are afraid to tell anything for fear of being blamed for it happening.

luv2surffish2: it actually happened. We just moved from Collinsworth and my wife talked to some of our neighbors and YES, it actually happened. killing_me_softly...He is in training for a sport. Glad I could clear things up....

That is scary stuff. When I was 14, three different men followed me in their cars and tried to talk me into getting in. One parked his car and followed me into the woods that led to my apartments. I took off running as fast as I could. This all happened in a three month period.

killing_me_softly - Yes kids jog at that age. They have a thing at school called the track team, football, baseball etc. My daughter started jogging at the age of 8 because she was into sports. Some people promote healthy living to their kids.
