DURHAM, N.C. — Three car windshields were smashed on neighborhood streets north of downtown Durham over the weekend, police said Monday.

Two of the homeowners live on North Gregson Street in the Trinity Park neighborhood – one of the damaged cars was parked around the corner on Demerius Street – and the third lives on Arbor Street.

One of the residents captured what he believes are the vandals on his home security camera. The video shows two people wearing hooded sweatshirts get out of a car stop on North Gregson Street at about 3 a.m. Saturday, and one of them appears to jump on the hood of a car.

Larry Bumgardner said he believes the person then stomped on his car's windshield.

"I think it’s kind of ignorant behavior," Bumgardner said Monday. "It's a rare thing in my neighborhood – it's a rare thing for me – so it's just a thing you sort of put up with, and you don't expect that to happen again."

Police were reviewing the security video.

"Maybe there is a chance that they’ll be able to stop these guys before they get into something more serious," Bumgardner said.
