Police investigate another bomb threat at Southpoint mall
Durham police on Tuesday morning investigated a bomb threat at the Nordstrom store at the Streets of Southpoint mall, the third threat at the mall since late March.
Posted — UpdatedPolice said the bomb threat was reported shortly after 8 a.m. Authorities searched the area but nothing was located.
The mall doesn't officially open until 10 a.m., but it's unclear if anyone was inside at the time of the threat.
There was no elevated police presence at the mall around 10 a.m. Tuesday.
Sgt. Brad Kirby with the Durham County Sheriff's Office and his K-9, named Dreyfus, on March 26 searched Southpoint for explosives. The two did not find anything suspicious.
Authorities did not say if all four calls on that date specifically mentioned Nordstrom or if the threat extended to other portions of the mall. Several employees at other stores in the mall said they were never informed of the threat and the mall remained open as normal while authorities investigated.
Anyone with information on any of the threats is asked to call Inv. Moody at 919-560-4583, ext. 29370 or Durham Crime Stoppers at 919-683-1200
