— A 14-year-old girl who told Fayetteville police that she was raped last week on her way home from the library made the story up, police said Thursday.

The teen said she left the Main Headquarters Library last Thursday night and was walking through Linear Park when a man grabbed her, pulled her into some bushes and raped her, police said. The girl said the man fled in the direction of Mason Street and she ran back to the library to call for help.

Investigators have determined that the alleged attack never occurred, police said. There was no word on whether the girl would be charged with filing a false report.

Four other rapes have been reported in Fayetteville since June 3. A man has been charged in one, but the other three remain unsolved.

"Hope they find a way to make this a lesson she doesn't soon forget- maybe make her sit down with women who have actually been attacked so she can see that what she did isn't funny or taken lightly at all." Dwntwonboy

    Very very good idea!!!

it did seem a little weird that she had such great/clear details about the "rapist". i guess my focus at the time would be to get away w/o being harmed instead of finding out the color of his eyes..

I was the one who said she was making it up. Just seemed too farfetched of a story.

"One of the commenters on here said this girl was making it up...and we all jumped him. djofraleigh"

Those were my thoughts as well, but being very familiar with how things generally go on this site I decided to keep it to myself until more was known. I'm sorry I was correct.

This happens all to often and so many people have been put on the sex offender registry b/c of it. The parents of these minor females should be held accountable for the actions of their attention deprived daughters. It's not fair that the males have to pay for the rest of their lives and these little "ladies" walk away scott free....

It is interesting that she chose a white person as her imaginary attacker. What race is she, could this have a hate crime? Some have guessed she did it for attention, could she have been making it up for another reason?

Shannon - ALL criminals have issues they need help with.

There should be no discussion about whether she'll be charged - she broke the law, charge her! Done. Over.
