Police: Death of man pulled from Neuse River not related to flood

The death of a man whose body was pulled from the Neuse River in Smithfield on Tuesday afternoon was not flood related, according to the State Medical Examiner's Office.

SMITHFIELD, N.C. — The death of a man whose body was pulled from the Neuse River in Smithfield on Tuesday afternoon was not related to flooding from heavy rains, according to the State Medical Examiner’s Office.

Authorities said that a Department of Transportation worker reported seeing the body in the river at about 2:30 p.m. Tuesday near South Bright Leaf Boulevard and called 911.

Authorities said the man has not been identified.

He is described as being 5 feet, 3 inches tall and white with a black and red “tribal design” tattoo on his upper right arm and shoulder.
