TRINITY, N.C. — The pilot of a small plane was killed Saturday morning after his plane crashed and burst into flames in Randolph County, authorities said.

Investigators said the pilot, whose name has not been released, was practicing take-offs and landings when the fiery crash occurred in the 600 block of Trindale Road.

Officials said around 9 a.m., the wheels of the small plane clipped some powerlines, sending the plane nose first into the ground. The plane flipped and later caught fire.
