MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. — Authorities identified a Duplin County man Monday who was struck and killed by a train in Mount Olive Friday as he walked down the center of the tracks.

Marquis Lamont Ezzell, 27, of Calypso, had ear buds from an electrical device in his ears when he was struck from behind, police said. The train did use its visual and audible warning systems as it approached Ezzell, witnesses said.

Police made a preliminary identification on Ezzell's body based on personal belongings found at the scene. The state crime lab confirmed it was Ezzell on Monday.
