Lumberton double shooting ruled murder-suicide

A 68-year-old pastor and his 64-year-old wife were found dead Wednesday outside their home on Old Whiteville Road in Lumberton, according to the Fayetteville Observer.

LUMBERTON, N.C. — The shooting death of a Hope Mills pastor and his wife who were found at their Lumberton home Wednesday afternoon has been ruled a murder-suicide. 

William Scott, 68, and Charlotte Scott, 64, were found by their granddaughter on the deck at their house on Old Whiteville Road around 2:30 p.m.

According to authorities, William Scott shot his wife then shot himself with a small caliber handgun. 

William Scott was a pastor at Charity Baptist Church in Gray's Creek, and he also served as the treasurer at East Lumberton Baptist Church.

Charlotte Scott's funeral has been planned for 2 p.m. Monday at East Lumberton Baptist Church. Plans for William Scott have not been finalized.

No further information about the shooting was immediately available. The investigation is ongoing.
