— A part of Falls of Neuse Road in Raleigh will soon get a new name.

The Wake County Board of Commissioners voted Monday to rename the two-mile stretch from the Neuse River to Durham Road. Starting Oct. 15, that section will be known as Old Falls of Neuse Road.

Board members said the name change is needed to avoid confusing drivers and emergency responders.

New and Old is no different than adding East or West, North or South, except at least then we know what direction we are going! lol

That part of New Falls of the Neuse is north of Old Falls of the Neuse and Old Raleigh headed up towards New Raleigh and New Wake Forest which is near Old Wake Forest, but no where near Old Wake Forest Rd

How does this change clarify anything? Just keep the name of the road the same for its entire length.

You all missed one - New Falls of the Neuse, Old Falls of the Neuse, Falls of the Neuse and Wake Forest Road.

By 2030 we'll have Old New Falls of the Neuse, New New Falls of the Neuse, New Old Walk Forest Road, and Very Old Wake Forest Road.

I used to live in Atlanta - Raliegh needs to learn how it's done and just call it Peachtree St.

lol!! So true, however, they'd need to call everything Acorn Street around here.

Stop calling roads "New..." and "Old.."..just give them original names. Problem solved.

I agree with Heelraiser. It makes sense and differentiates between the 4 lane that runs up to Capital and the 2 older lane. As long as New Falls is dropped, I think it works. However, I live out there and drive it everyday, so maybe its not as clear to everyone.

More progressive governing from Wake county. What's next, will we rename Raleigh to be known from now on as New Raleigh?

This makes perfect sense. I ride that area all the time. Just look at a map. The 4 lane section is now just one name - Falls of Neuse Road - while the older two lane branch is designated as the "Old" section.
