FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — Police said Thursday that they have identified two suspects in a series of robberies of Taco Bell restaurants in Fayetteville.

Investigators have obtained arrest warrants for Christopher Dean Gilbert, 23, of Trace Avenue, and William Franklin Byford III, 31, of Adam Lake Drive, on charges of robbery with a dangerous weapon.

Gilbert surrendered to police Thursday afternoon, but Byford wasn't in custody, police said.

The charges stem from a robbery last Saturday at the Taco Bell at 2130 Cedar Creek Road.

Investigators are reviewing Taco Bell robberies at 2819 Raeford Road on Oct. 18, 4705 Ramsey St. on Oct. 24 and again at 2819 Raeford Road on Nov. 9 for possible additional charges.

In each case, a masked man broke into the restaurant after midnight, showed a small revolver and stole an undisclosed amount of cash.

In some of the cases, a gray Honda Element with a broken driver's-side window arrived at the scene just before the crime, parked for a short period of time and then left, police said.

Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Gilbert or Byford or about any of the robberies is asked to call police at 910-433-1856 or Crime Stoppers at 910-483-8477.
