Pair charged with stealing from mailboxes

Posted April 17, 2009

— Police are trying to determine how many area residents might have had mail stolen after charging two people with stealing from mailboxes.

Leah Faith Jernigan, 19, of Duncan Earl Lane, and Lacy Lee Williams, 18, of Ponderosa Drive, were arrested Thursday at a BB&T branch on West Cumberland Street. Police said they were trying to cash stolen checks.

The pair told investigators that they had stolen mail from several subdivisions in the area, police said, and investigators have recovered some of the stolen items.

Anyone who thinks they might have had something taken from their mailbox recently is asked to call the Dunn Police Department.

Yeah, this is probably the reason I haven't gotten the money to pay for my car, my health insurance, and my mortgage from the federal government.

I quit working so I could get that money!

I hope they are tried in federal court. Postal inspectors rarely prosecute these cases unless they are big money or all over the news. Usually it's just handed over to local authorities.
