ROBBINS, N.C. — Two people were arrested Sunday evening and charged with the shooting death of a Moore County man, authorities said.

Jimmy Lee Britt, 59, of Smoke House Lane in the Spies community of western Moore County, was killed Sunday afternoon when he went to investigate a noise in his backyard shortly before 5 p.m., authorities said. His wife told investigators that she heard several gunshots after he went outside and saw him lying on the ground.

Neighbors told investigators that two people fled through some nearby woods after the shooting, and deputies arrested two people coming out of the woods about a half-mile away, off Pine Grove Church Road, authorities said.

Daniel Keith Britt, 21, and Stephanie Marie Kinley, 23, both of 3121 Bingham Loflin Road in Asheboro, were charged with first-degree murder and robbery with a dangerous weapon. They were being held without bond Monday in the Moore County Detention Center.
