OXFORD, N.C.Editor's Note: The charge against Jason Tingen was later dismissed because the witness was deemed unreliable. Jason Tingen's criminal record was later expunged, leaving no record of the charge.

An Oxford police officer is on paid suspension while Granville County authorities investigate an assault case involving the officer.

The sheriff's office said Thursday that the alleged assault happened Tuesday in Bullock.

The officer, Jason Tingen, 37, and another man, Douglas Tingen, 55, are listed as victims of a disturbance, according to an incident report.

The report says that a third man was a victim of an assault.

Saying it is an ongoing investigation, the sheriff's office declined to comment about the case and referred all questions to Granville County's district attorney.

The DA's office did not return a call seeking comment.

The relationship between the three men is unclear.
