OXFORD, N.C. — An Oxford man sought in the slaying of his uncle last week was arrested Monday afternoon, police said.

Michael Sharron Wright, 26, of 206 W. College St., is charged with first-degree murder in the death of 54-year-old Kirk Douglas Wright Sr. He was being held without bond Monday in the Granville County Jail.

Kirk Wright was reported missing last Wednesday morning, and a neighbor pointed officers to what appeared to be a makeshift grave in a wooded area behind an abandoned house at the end of 4th Street, police said.

Authorities determined the body found in the grave was Kirk Wright. A preliminary autopsy showed he died of asphyxiation.

Police issued warrants for Michael Wright on Friday, although they haven't disclosed a motive for the slaying.

Oxford police received a tip Monday that Michael Wright was in Winston-Salem, and Winston-Salem officers tracked him down and arrested him, police said.
