— A cross-agency law enforcement crackdown along I-95 netted 34 violations, 269 grams of drugs and $8,700 in cash.

The Halifax County Sheriff's Office, along with the N.C. State Highway Patrol, N.C. Alcohol Law Enforcement, the State Bureau of Investigation and the N.C. National Guard participated in the two-day operation.

The bulk of the seized property came from two arrests.

Anthony Michael Charles Reeves, 22, of Emporia, Va., was found to have 198 grams of marijuana, 46 grams of powder cocaine and one dose of crack cocaine in his car, along with a loaded 40 caliber semi-automatic pistol, digital scales and various items of drug paraphernalia. Officers seized his vehicle and Reeves was confined to the Halifax County Jail under a $60,000 secured bond.

In another traffic stop, officers found $8,650 hidden in the trunk of a vehicle. Officers seized that money.

NEWS FLASH: They have to have a reason to confiscate money from you... obviously they have one and haven't released the info to the public.

Also, if they find large amounts of $.. my guess is they wip out their test kits and see if there is any drug residue on the money... if there is any residue present... the money then belongs to the gov't.

Again, obviously they had a reason for taking the money... otherwise some lawyer would have allready 'volunteered' their services and gotten it back.

Re-read the article...the cash was from a seperate stop. Nothing stated as to why the money was seized. I have a real problem with that. Just because you have $8000.00 doesn't make you illegal. I sold a motorcycle once and had $15,000.00 cash on me. I was also armed. But, I was not breaking any laws and there would have been no reason for leo to seize my cash if I got stopped for any reason. I hope for the leo's sake there was a justifiable reason to seize that money.

they didn't just TAKE it, he had a gun and DRUGS in the car!

How much cash can you have on hand before they seize it? Why would they take it if you were doing nothing wrong. I know this guy was doing something wrong but what if you were not? Didn't know that.

I'm sure there were related drug charges that justified the money seizure. If not, any lawyer will get it back bacause that's not right!

  • Notinitforthemoney Apr 15, 2008

I'm sure the car smelled like dope because he/she just dropped some off. I'm sure the driver didn't have a job to prove where the money came from. Make him/her show that the money was legally theirs and no harm. But being everyone wants to be a hustler and wants to beat the system they have a problem because the system won on this $8,700.00 Seizure.

Why was the money seized. All the banks are failing. Why not have it in the trunk.

  • bushretard Apr 15, 2008

So you can't have money in your trunk? What law is that violating?

Legalize drugs, and you can close half the prisons and lay off 1/4 of the cops.
