One killed, one injured after boats collide on Cape Fear River

— One person was killed and another injured Thursday evening when two boats collided in the Cape Fear River, Pender County officials said. 

Emergency crews responding to the area of the river near Rocky Point about 7:30 p.m. said one of the boats flipped following the collision. 

It wasn't clear what caused the boats to collide, and authorities did not release the names of the people involved in the incident.

    WIth it being a day of "celebration" , and knowing others who drink and boat, wonder if alcohol played a roll. Sad for all involved

    Probably, plus the only requirement for operating a boat on the water is the ability to buy the boat. The water is full of boaters who really have no experience and no clue as to how right of way, overtaking, etc works on the water.
