One dead, one arrested after shooting in Butner

Butner police arrived at 507 E. F St. just before 6 p.m. to find one person dead inside. They arrested a second person, and they found a handgun in the house.

BUTNER, N.C. — Georgetta Carrington and her husband went out to dinner Monday night. When they returned, crime scene tape surrounded a neighbor's home, one person was dead and another in police custody.

"I don't know what could have triggered this," she said. "It's not something I ever would have expected. "

Butner police arrived at 507 E. F St. just before 6 p.m. to find a man dead inside. They arrested a woman, and they found a handgun in the house.

Carrington said that she knew the couple who lived next door – a former mail carrier on disability and her boyfriend – for more than a decade and described them as sweet and quiet. Another neighbor said the woman was sitting on the front steps when police arrived.

Police did not identify the people involved in the shooting.
