WENDELL, N.C. — A deer interrupted the school day Friday at East Wake High School in Wendell.

Principal Stacey Alston sent an email to families after 9 a.m. when a deer broke through a window and gained access to the school building at 5101 Rolesville Road.

"While students and staff were safe at all times, we wanted to make you aware as the incident did cause a brief disruption to the school day and minor damage to our building," Alston wrote.

In some videos sent to WRAL News, blood was visible and the deer was thrashing against a glass door.

Alston said the East Wake's custodial services team inspected, deep cleaned and disinfected the campus.

School staff and school resource officers worked together to get the deer out of the building.

The deer was injured when it broke inside the school, but no update was shared about the condition of the deer.

"I would like to thank our staff members and students for being patient, calm and cooperative during this incident," Alston wrote.
