RALEIGH, N.C. — A police officer struck by a patrol car Tuesday as he and another officer struggled with a man during an arrest was released from the hospital Wednesday, police said.

Meanwhile, the suspect in the case was ordered held on a $60,000 bond.

Officers A.R. Caruana and K.C. Heckman were observing drug activity on Camden Street as part of an ongoing street-level drug enforcement effort when they saw someone being robbed, police said. As the officers tried to arrest the thief, they fell toward a patrol car arriving to provide assistance, police said.

The trio hit the side of the cruiser, and Caruana and Eddie Keith were injured.

Keith, 33, of 321 Shellum St., was released from WakeMed Tuesday and was charged with strong-arm robbery in connection with the incident.

Caruana was released from WakeMed Wednesday.
